I’m Rob Bonstin, a voice teacher and coach. I have 40 years of experience as a vocalist and performer and I’ve trained with some of the most sought-after voice teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area who’ve taught the likes of Barbra Streisand and Sammy Hagar. 

My musical journey began in my childhood. My house was filled with music all the time by my family playing LP records from the time I was in the play pen. When I was old enough I began an obsession with collecting LP records. I would play these albums over and over until I memorized the lyrics and began singing to them. I would play air guitar and sing along to rock records until my friends discovered I could actually sing. This led to me joining rock bands with my friends, and I would also perform in musicals in the local theaters and in school.

I pursued a career in music from then on and formed or joined many rock bands over the years. And I picked up keyboards and guitar along the way. For voice I went to some of the biggest names in voice in the Bay Area like Judy Davis and Claudine Spindt. And I took piano lessons and my friends would teach me guitar. For many years I played in the local clubs and eventually began playing in bar bands.

I began giving voice lessons to my band mates at first, to make sure they knew how they could sing and harmonize with me. I would eventually go on to begin giving voice lessons privately.

My musical education hasn’t stopped and I continue to take music lessons today. And of course I still play music in bands and various music projects. Over the years I’ve studied the voice and how I can help singers improve their singing and expand their vocal range. And most importantly I can teach them how to keep from damaging their voice so they can continue to keep on singing.
